Biography

John earned his degree in mechanical engineering from Drexel University in 1989.  With a focus on mechanical defects, failure analysis, and general system safety, John’s expertise extends to the investigation and analysis of alleged mechanical failures of a wide variety of products including industrial equipment, consumer products, child safety seats, seatbelts, seatbacks, restraint systems, occupant restraints, wheelchair and patient lifts, wheelchair tiedowns, lawnmowers, and ladders.  John has nearly 30 years of experience in forensic investigations for the legal and insurance industries and has been involved with all aspects of investigation, research, and product testing for various branches of the government, as well as private companies.

John is a registered professional engineer in several states and is a member of numerous professional societies including the National Academy of Forensic Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers, SAE International, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineer, among others.  He has co-authored approximately two dozen peer-reviewed papers and presented at numerous conferences.  John is a nationally certified firefighter, vehicle rescue technician, and holds a certification in Child Passenger Safety Instruction.  Along with additional training in various emergency service-related disciplines, John’s unique background provides an extensive understanding of mechanical failures occupant protection and emergency service incidents.

Early in his career, John was a test engineer for the Navy and worked at several facilities to related to the development and support of equipment for the crew and occupants of military aircraft.  Prior to coming to DJS, John worked on several research projects related to the protection of occupant in military ground vehicles as well as civilian ambulances.  He is also the inventor on a patent for a side impact test apparatus that has been adopted as part of the federal standards for side impact testing of child seat.

John and his wife recently celebrated their 35th anniversary with a trip to Alaska.  They have three grown children and one grandchild.  John enjoys serving his community and is very active in his local fire company and municipal zoning hearing board.
